Keeping Your Baby + Family Safe During Coronavirus

It's difficult to find the exact right words to describe what's happening around the world right now as it pertains to the Coronavirus (COVID-19). I'm not sure where you are in the world, but here in British Columbia, Canada we've had gatherings over 250 individuals banned, in addition to having a mandate that if you leave the country at any point that you are to self-isolate for 14 days. My hope is that instead of fear we turn to solidarity, encouraging each other during a time when we could be scared.

Put down the 12 boxes of toilet paper and your $100 hand sanitizer.

It's not time to panic. It's time to wash your hands and keep your babies safe. To that end, I wanted to offer this quick list of things you can do to keep your baby safe during this global pandemic.

1.

WEAR YOUR BABY

Wearing your baby discourages others from touching their adorable faces and hands. You can also add a "Don't touch the baby" sign. Shop our wraps here.

2.

WASH YOUR BABY CARRIER

If you go into a public space, it's prudent to wash your baby wrap (and clothes!) more often than you normally would with laundry detergent and warm water. Remember, always hang to dry.

3.

WASH YOUR HANDS, AND YOUR BABY'S HANDS

Little ones love to reach and grasp at things. It's been advised to wash with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, as often as possible.

4.

STAY AWAY FROM CROWDS

As a new parent, this is a no-brainer. If you can, get groceries delivered. And, I'm just saying, Amazon delivers toilet paper. This doesn't mean you're stuck inside necessarily - choose the beach or grass field over the mall.

5.

STOCK UP

It's never a bad idea to be prepared. Order yourself a two-week's supply of diapers, wipes, formula, baby medicine, and other baby goods you may need if there is ever a need to stay in your home for a little while.

Our Business

I'd also like to add that, as a business, we take the safety of our customers seriously. We always keep our small studio incredibly clean and sanitized, and will continue to do so. The only individuals with access to our studio are my husband and I, and we will ensure to continue diligent hand washing and disinfecting, and only continue to ship out orders as long as we are both 100% healthy.

I'm not a medical professional, so please take this advice with a grain of salt. Consult your doctor if you have symptoms that are worrying (calling a free nurse helpline is always a good first step). And in light of these stressful times, please keep an eye on your mental health. I remember clearly the anxiety and depression that can accompany new parenthood, and things like this can certainly make it worse. Ask for help, take care of yourself.

AND WASH YOUR HANDS

With love and calmness,

Haley Campbell

I reached out to Mamas for Mamas see if we could design a charity wrap together, with $5 from each wrap donated to their cause. I asked if they had a particular mama they wanted to name the wrap after, and that’s when this project became larger and more touching than I ever could have imagined.

This is the story they wrote back with, asking for us to name the wrap - The Samara.
